Carlsbad

Home. Big two-story plans in La Costa and Aviara, older houses near the village, and a modem in a coat closet by the garage.

Carlsbad is home. My kids went to school here, I've coached here for years, and most of the families I know are within a few miles of the village.

The houses tell you most of what you need to know. La Costa and Aviara have the big two-story plans from the eighties and nineties: stucco over wire lath, which blocks WiFi about as well as anything, and a modem in a coat closet by the garage. The kids' rooms are upstairs, at the far end of the house from it. The village and Olde Carlsbad have smaller, older houses, thicker walls, and remodels that never got wired.

None of that is a problem. It means the network has to be built for the house, not plugged into a wall and hoped for. One access point per floor, where the kids actually are, and a wire to each one.

What Carlsbad families ask about most: a bedtime that actually turns the internet off, a phone that keeps losing the filter when it leaves the house, and the console in the bonus room.
